Patrick T. Dougherty
Pat Dougherty is a partner in the law firm of Dougherty
& Dougherty, LLP. He has practiced law in South Dakota since 1982. In
1981 he served as the law clerk for the U.S. Bankruptcy Court, District of
South Dakota. His practice includes bankruptcy law, business law, debtor-creditor
law, family law, real estate law and wills.
In his bankruptcy practice Mr. Dougherty has represented debtors and creditors
in cases under Chapters 7, 11, 12, and 13. Mr. Dougherty has served as chapter
7 trustee and periodically represents bankruptcy trustees in bankruptcy related
litigation. In his creditor practice he represents banks, equipment finance
companies, and unsecured creditor committees.
Mr. Dougherty graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1976. In 1980
he received his law degree from the University of South Dakota. He has lectured
in the area of bankruptcy and foreclosure law. Mr. Dougherty is a member
of the Avera McKennan Foundation Board.
Timothy J. Dougherty
Tim Dougherty is a partner in the law firm of Dougherty & Dougherty,
LLP. He has practiced law in South Dakota since 1984. His practice includes
lobbying, business and real estate transactions, wills and trusts, probate,
and family law.
In his lobbying practice, Mr. Dougherty represents a wide variety of
organizations on legislative and regulatory matters at the local, state and
federal levels of government. His clients include local trade associations
and fortune 500 companies. The Sioux Falls Argus Leader described Mr. Dougherty
as "one of the state's leading lobbyists."
Mr. Dougherty graduated from the University of South Dakota in 1981 and was
elected a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society. In 1984, he received his
law degree from the University of South Dakota, School of Law. He is a member
of the State Bar of South Dakota and is licensed to practice law in the state
and federal courts of South Dakota. He has been registered as a lobbyist
at the State Capitol since 1985, and he has served as a child support referee
for the South Dakota Unified Judicial System since 1989.
Mr. Dougherty is active in several civic and cultural organizations. Currently,
he is a member of the board of directors of the South Dakota Art Museum,
the South Dakota Friends of Public Broadcasting and the South Dakota Coalition
for Responsible Taxation. He formerly served as a member of the board of
directors of the Wegner Arboretum Society, Inc., the Washington Pavilion
of Arts Sciences, the Senior Citizen Services, Inc., and the Sioux Empire
Fair Association. He also served on the Governor's Commission on Child Support
and the Sioux Falls Board of Adjustment.
